Electrovaya to set up gigafactory in New York state

USA / Canada – Toronto-based battery manufacturer, Electrovaya Inc has announced it plans to establish its first American lithium-ion battery gigafactory using 100% renewable energy, in the state of New York. Scheduled to open in late 2023, the 137,000-square-foot factory near Jamestown, will produce lithium-ion batteries for e-trucks, e-buses and e-forklifts. The facility is expected to create 250 jobs and produce one GWh of batteries over the next five years.

Costing USD75m, the project is partly funded by the Empire State Development (ESD) agency by providing up to USD4m of tax credits through the performance-based Excelsior Jobs Program and USD2.5m of funding through the Regional Council Capital Fund Program.
