New Flyer signs contract for 473 low- and zero-emission buses with San Diego MTS

New Flyer's Xcelsior Charge NG and CNG models

USANew Flyer of America Inc, a subsidiary of the NFI Group based in Crookston, Minnesota, has signed a five-year contract with the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (“MTS”) stipulating a firm order for 41 CNG and electric buses along with options for a further 432 buses.

The order comprises 28 compressed natural gas buses and 13 ‘Charge NG’ battery-electric buses, both from the ‘Xcelsior’ range of 40-foot transit buses. The options allow for MTS to order any number of 40- and 60-foot buses with either gas or electric drivelines up to an additional 432 units. MTS’ order was supported by money granted by the Federal Transit Administration. A timescale for deliveries of the initial 41 buses has not been released.
