Volvo to deploy 8 electric trucks as part of New York clean transport initiative

USA – Volvo Group North America Inc of Greensboro, North Carolina has announced it will deploy eight VNR Electric trucks as part of a USD10m programme funded by New York Clean Transportation Prizes, an initiative from the state of New York designed to reduce air pollution.
The initiative has pledged to direct a minimum of 35% of its available funds to “underserved communities” in the state, as part of the state’s ambitions to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 85% by 2050. As such, the VNR Electric trucks will be deployed to the South Bronx, a relatively poor district of New York City. Four of the trucks, equipped with transport refrigeration units, will serve City Harvest, a distributor of donated food items. The other four will go to the Electric Truckers Cooperative, a worker-owned firm providing distribution services on a ‘vehicle-as-a-service’ business model.
