Gillig secures record-breaking test figures for electric bus at Altoona

Gillig Battery Electric Bus operated by Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), Charlotte, North Carolina

USA - Heavy-duty transit bus manufacturer, GILLIG LLC, based in Livermore, California, has announced that its 40 ft electric bus received the highest-ever score for a battery electric bus tested at Altoona, Pennsylvania, with a total score of 89.5 out of 100.

The Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Bus Test Program, conducted by the Larson Transportation Institute’s Bus Research and Testing Centre, evaluates over a 15,000-mile range, how well a vehicle performs under conditions that simulate the bus duty cycles in a city. In order to be eligible for purchase with a federal grant, all buses must demonstrate they meet the expected Altoona test performance criteria in areas including maintainability, reliability, safety, structural integrity, noise, fuel economy, and emissions.
