Goodyear unveils new sustainable tyre demonstrator

USA – Akron, Ohio-based Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company unveiled a new demonstrator tyre, that comprised 90% sustainable materials* which has completed all regulatory testing, revealing lower rolling resistance when compared to the same tyre made from traditional materials. The product offers fuel savings and a drastic decrease in emissions through the burning of rubber on the road as well as in the manufacturing process.

The gains have been made using soybean oil, which helps reduce the use of petroleum-based products as well as bio-renewable pine tree resins to enhance tyre traction. Sustainably produced silica from rice husk waste residue (RHA silica) was used to help improve grip, with recycled polyester from bottles used in the tyre cords and recycled bead wire and steel cords providing reinforcement in the structure of a radial tire.
