Daimler Truck North America unveils Freightliner SuperTruck II

Freightliner SuperTruck II

USA – February in Las Vegas, Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA) of Portland, Oregon, a subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG of Stuttgart, Germany, unveiled the Freightliner SuperTruck II concept vehicle. The vehicle was produced as part of the existing SuperTruck program co-funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and Industry, and is aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in road transportation.

DTNA said it has made significant improvements to the powertrain, energy management, tractor aerodynamics, freight efficiency and the rolling resistance of its tyres. DTNA reported a 12% reduction in aerodynamic drag compared with the SuperTruck I model, thanks in part to a newly designed chassis, bumper and hood. Freightliner stated the SuperTruck II featured the most efficient powertrain it has ever integrated into a truck, enabling a 5.7 per cent fuel consumption reduction over SuperTruck I.
