Netherlands / Germany – The Royal Terberg Group of IJsselstein, Netherlands has announced a partnership with Fernride GmbH of Munich, Bavaria, Germany to develop a commercial-ready autonomous terminal tractor by 2024.

Terberg will build terminal tractors with drive-by-wire interfaces and install Fernride’s hardware kit – consisting of computers, remote connectors and sensors – in order to make them partially autonomous. With Fernride’s technology, drivers will be able to “teleoperate” the tractors – that is to say, they will be able to drive them remotely – and take advantage of assistance systems that Terberg and Fernride will “gradually” develop in order to make the vehicles more and more autonomous. The two partners have reportedly worked together on the technology since 2021.
