LG Energy Solution investing USD5.5bn in new battery cell facility in Arizona

South Korea / USALG Energy Solution of Seoul, South Korea has announced it is investing a total of KRW7.2trn (USD5.5bn) into constructing a new battery cell manufacturing facility in Arizona, serving both the EV and energy storage markets. 

Out of the total funds committed to the project, KRW4.2trn (USD3.2bn) is earmarked for kickstarting production of cylindrical battery cells – a design which LG claims has high energy density and high output. Production is set to begin in 2025, with capacity targeted at 27 GWh per year.
