Germany – Diversified manufacturing firm Siemens AG of Munich, Bavaria has announced it has entered an agreement to supply tyre manufacturer Continental AG of Hanover, Lower Saxony with its latest generation of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and automation software for Continental’s factories worldwide.

Siemens is now one of Continental’s preferred supplier for factory automation technologies. It will supply its newest iterations of the long-running ‘Simatic’ line of PLCs (i.e., industrial computers), along with other hardware. Siemens has also agreed to train Continental engineers in the use of its ‘Totally Integrated Automation Portal’ (“TIA Portal”), a software platform for organising and automating various engineering processes from design to production. Continental will use Siemens’ ‘WinCC Unified’ software, which provides a visual interface for managing factory operations.
