USAThomas Built Buses Inc, a subsidiary of Daimler Truck based in High Point, North Carolina, has been selected to supply 160 electric school buses with Proterra batteries to the South Carolina Department of Education, paid for by funding from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

160 Proterra Powered ‘Saf-T-Liner C2 Jouley’ buses will be deployed in school districts across the state of South Carolina next year. Proterra has said that the batteries will be supplied from its recently opened facility in the state. The onboard batteries provide a capacity of 226 kWh, allowing for a range of up to 138 miles whilst carrying up to 81 schoolchildren. Thomas Built Buses claims it is the only school bus manufacturer which offers DC fast charging equipment as standard, allowing the Jouley to recharge in two to three hours.
