MAN opens Nuremberg labs for university research into electric drivelines

Doctoral student carrying out fuel cell research at an MAN test bench

GermanyMAN Truck & Bus SE, a subsidiary of the Traton Group based in Munich, Bavaria, has opened a new research and development centre for electric drivelines at its site in Nuremberg, alongside partners from local universities.

Creating the new ‘Future Driveline Campus’ involved repurposing several buildings that were previously used for developing diesel and gas engines. The new laboratories will be jointly managed by MAN and two institutes of higher education: the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) and the Technical University of Nuremberg Georg Simon Ohm (“Ohm”). Academics and students from these universities will use the MAN premises to carry out research on battery-electric and fuel-cell electric technologies.
