GermanyMAN Truck & Bus SE, a subsidiary of the Traton Group based in Munich, Bavaria, has announced its involvement in a local government project to put an autonomous bus on the road in the city of Munich by 2025.

MAN will be working with around a dozen partners on the project called ‘MINGA’ (after the Austro-Bavarian name for Munich, ‘Minga’). It will put a battery-electric ‘Lion’s City E’ bus, installed with autonomous driving technology, on bus route 144 through the Olympic Park in Munich, with a driver onboard for supervision. The project will involve not only designing a bus that can drive itself but also developing a digitised on-demand service so the bus can be put into regular commercial operation.
