UK – UK bus and coach operator, Stagecoach, has announced this month that it has successfully registered the UK’s first autonomous bus service beginning from the 15th of May 2023, with a fleet of autonomous buses operating in East Scotland, as the final stage of the CAVForth* project.

Initially, five diesel-powered buses, supplied by Scotland’s Larbert-based bus builder, Alexander Dennis Ltd (ADL), will be operated utilising an upgraded version of Fusion’s CAVStar autonomous driving software as it takes passengers along the 14-mile route across the Forth Road Bridge from the Ferrytoll Park & Ride in Fife to the Edinburgh Park Transport Interchange in Edinburgh. ADL confirmed the CAVForth project will use five Enviro200AV buses, which is ADL’s recently-introduced designation for the autonomous version of the diesel-powered, all-Alexander Dennis Enviro200.
