Scania and ABB test megawatt charging with electric trucks

Megawatt Charging System developed by Scania and ABB

Sweden / Switzerland – In May, Scania AB, a subsidiary of the Traton Group based in Södertälje, Sweden, and ABB Ltd, an electrical equipment manufacturer based in Zürich, Switzerland, announced that they successfully installed and tested a megawatt charger with a long-haul battery electric truck.

According to the two companies, the test was an important first step towards establishing a standard for Megawatt Charging Systems (MCS). Scania stated that the development of ABB’s prototype megawatt charger involved the Charging Interface Initiative, a non-profit organisation established by vehicle manufacturers to draw up international standards for the design and interoperability of electric vehicle chargers (the so-called ‘Combined Charging System’ or CCS).
