MAN to lead project into second life and reuse of EV batteries

Germany – A federally funded project in Germany is looking to develop a standardised, automated process for assessing and repurposing electric vehicle batteries which have reached the end of their useful life as a source of energy for propulsion. 

‘REVAMP’ (or, “Remanufacturing of variant battery modules with automated assembly and testing processes”) is a research project funded by the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz (Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection) and led by MAN Truck & Bus SE, a subsidiary of the Traton Group based in Munich, Bavaria. Over the next three years, MAN will work with eight other organisations, including Rhine-Westphalia Technical University of Aachen, Fraunhofer IPT, and engineering consultants Bertrandt Technikum
