Wrightbus supplies Metrobus with its first hydrogen-powered bus fleet

GB Kite Hydrolider hydrogen fuel cell electric bus

UK – On the 29th of June, UK public transport operator Metrobus, owned by the Go-Ahead Group, officially took delivery of its first hydrogen fuel cell-powered bus fleet consisting of 20 GB Kite Hydrolider hydrogen fuel cell electric buses supplied by Wrightbus Ltd of Ballymena. The buses are to be operated in the Crawley, Horley and Gatwick Airport areas in the UK. The operator plans to add another 34 of the same buses to its fleet over the next 18 months. These buses were chosen because of their ability to carry 90 passengers over long distances.

The buses are to be fuelled by a liquid hydrogen refuelling station installed at the Metrobus Crawley depot, owned and operated by gas company, Air Products PLC. Once fully operational, it will be the largest liquid hydrogen refuelling station in Europe and will have the capacity to fuel over 100 buses per day.
