Italy / Germany – Having launched its Mercedes-Benz eCitaro articulated 18m electric bus with a Toyota fuel cell range extender* at the UITP Global Public Transport Summit in Barcelona last month, Daimler Truck AG  announced positive results from the eCitaro’s winter alpine crossing test in the Italian Alps. In below-freezing temperatures and at an altitude of 1,795 metres above sea level in the South Tyrolean Alps, the electric drive system and fuel cell started smoothly over the course of several days.

The test started with crossing the Alps from Neu-Ulm via Füssen, the Fern pass and the Reschen pass to Bolzano, Italy. There was a public hydrogen filling station directly next to the Bolzano South motorway junction and another H2 filling station at the depot of the Bolzano-based Sasa transport company.
