BorgWarner invests in eMobility manufacturing capabilities in Mexico

Groundbreaking ceremony in San Luis Potosi

Mexico / USA – At a groundbreaking ceremony held last month, CV powertrain components giant, BorgWarner Inc of Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA, announced an investment into its San Luis Potosi (Mexico) manufacturing plant to expand its eMobility technology manufacturing capabilities. This move is a part of the company's “Charging Forward” strategy, with a target of having at least 25% of its revenues from sales of components and systems to battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by 2025.

The 64,000 square metre piece of land will house a new manufacturing facility for power electronic components and electric motors with 380 new jobs to be created over the next five years. The facility will come online incrementally with phase 1 beginning in Q2 2024. BorgWarner has operated in the area for the last 8 years and hopes to develop the city into an electromobility manufacturing hub. The company confirmed that the facility will also house a product validation testing laboratory, with a focus on inverters, opening the door for the development of new technologies in-house.
