USANikola Corporation of Phoenix, Arizona announced on 11 August that it is voluntarily recalling over 200 of its battery electric Class 8 trucks, following a report which indicated a fault with the battery packs’ cooling systems.

Preliminary findings from an investigation conducted by a third party1 have identified a potential fault with a component sourced from an unnamed supplier. It is believed that the component was responsible for a coolant leak which led to a truck fire at Nikola headquarters on 23 June. The results were corroborated by a second fire on 10 August (the very day when the findings from the original investigation were presented!). Foul play was ruled out as a cause in both cases.
