Busworld Europe – 6 weeks to go!

After a wait of four years (the 2021 edition was postponed due to Covid restrictions), the 26th edition of Busworld Europe will finally open its doors once again at the Brussels Expo show ground from the 7th to the 12th of October 2023.

As we lead up to the show, the editorial team at Truck & Bus Builder – your daily news resource for what’s happening globally by region and country in the commercial vehicle manufacturing industry - will provide you with details of some of the companies attending and what their USP might be at the show.

Mellor Bus to present three e-buses for mainland Europe

UK - Mellor Bus of Rochdale will be exhibiting at Busworld this year taking 400 sq m of exhibition space in Hall 5, stand 505, for accommodating three of its purpose design monocoque Sigma electric transit buses in left hand drive for the European markets; Sigma 7, Sigma 9 and Sigma 12.

Sigma 7 is a small lightweight fully integral bus measuring 7.1m long and 2.1m wide with Dana drivetrain and CATL batteries. To date some 50 units have been sold to operators in Germany and Sweden.

Sigma 9 is a world premiere (Mellor having already launched the 7,8, 10 and 12 versions) with plans for trialling this lightweight (13.5t gvw) LHD two-door city bus in German cities after the launch at Busworld. Its dimensions are 9.4m by 2.35m, again featuring a Dana drivetrain with Brist front axle.

Sigma 12 is also a European first – this is a 3-door Class II certified design specifically developed for the  suburban city bus sector.

Netherlands – Celebrating 25 years of operations, small vehicle bus conversion specialists, Tribus Group of Utrecht, which will be exhibiting in hall 9 Booth 944, plans to “present a range of groundbreaking innovations that are set to revolutionize public transportation”.

It will be showcasing the E-Civitas Economy Low-Floor Bus, a lightweight electric bus tailor-made for transporting small groups within the public transit network, which it plans to start manufacturing towards the end of 2024.

A second novelty is an innovative flooring solution, called the TriflexAIR 2.0 Flooring System, which is notably lightweight and is specifically designed for M1 category buses.

The third innovation is the “Revolutionary Passenger Safety Check”. It is a wireless passenger signalization system integrated into the TriflexAIR 2.0 Flooring System. This technology detects the presence of passengers, verifies the fastening of seatbelts, and ensures secure positioning of wheelchair users – all this information is on a display next to the driver.
