ZF to retrofit 263 Berlin emergency vehicles with Rescue Connect telematics

Berlin fire brigade vehicles

Germany – Component systems specialist ZF Friedrichshafen AG of Friedrichshafen, Baden-Württemberg has announced that it won a tender to install its telematics hardware in 263 emergency vehicles in the Berliner Feuerwehr (“Berlin Fire Brigade”) fleet, allowing them to connect to ZF’s ‘Rescue Connect’ management platform.

By the end of September, 210 ambulances and 50 emergency vehicles will be fitted with transmitters and receivers, along with on-board diagnostics, for remote data exchange. Moreover, three fire trucks will be installed with the ‘VCU Pro’, a more powerful hardware kit, on a test basis. The VCU Pro, which is designed for larger vehicles, has four CAN interfaces and a dual processor.
