Leyland Trucks prepares for start of series production of XB and XB Electric trucks

DAF Trucks' range of electric trucks

UK / Netherlands – Leyland Trucks of Leyland, Lancashire, has announced that it will build DAF Trucks’ latest new medium-duty truck models, the XB and XB Electric, which are to replace the LF, at the plant in Leyland starting in November this year, according to Chris Griffiths, Chief Engineer at Leyland Trucks in a presentation at Cenex 2023 held at UTAC Millbrook Proving Ground on September 6-7.

Griffiths said, like the LF that the XB and XB Electric replaces, all are to be produced at Leyland by Leyland Trucks. More specifically, production of the XB Electric starts week 45, 2023 and the XB (ICE) starts in week 49, 2023. Cabs for the new XB are to continue to be produced at the Renault Trucks plant in Blainville, France – where the cabs for DAF, Renault Truck and Volvo light-medium duty models are produced. For sales in the UK and Europe, the LF is being phased out at the same moment as the XB is being introduced. However, regarding the LF in other markets we are waiting for confirmation from DAF on whether any LF production will continue. Griffiths said that DAF Trucks today can offer a wide range of electric trucks from 12 tons gvw to 26 tons and tractor units up to 40 tons with battery sizes to suit any application.
