France – Renault Trucks SAS, a subsidiary of the Volvo Group based in Saint-Priest, France, has announced its first successful conversion of a diesel truck to battery electric power, as part of a government-funded retrofit project.
The company took a used 12-tonne ‘Renault Trucks D’ and removed its engine, gearbox, fuel and AdBlue tanks, hydraulic pump, and compressors for air conditioning, suspension and braking. These components were replaced with an electric motor connected directly to the driveshaft, a 210-kWh battery pack, a 22-kW onboard charger, and electric compressors, pumps, and heaters.
