DTNA to electrify eM2 Freightliner with Hexagon batteries

Freightliner eM2

USA / Norway – This month, Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA) of Portland, Oregon (a subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG) announced that it has entered into an agreement with Hexagon Purus ASA of Ålesund, Norway, to supply batteries, battery systems and for integration into DTNA’s battery electric Freightliner eM2 vocational trucks. Furthermore, the agreement encompasses power modules and power-take-off (PTO) technology. According to DTNA, the decision was made on the strong performance of Hexagon’s high voltage battery technology and its “efficient kWh per metre of frame length which aligns with the packaging needs of medium-duty vocational applications.”

A prototype eM2 was unveiled in May, at the ACT expo. The vehicle has been testing with select customers since 2018 and has racked up more than 1.5 million testing miles.
