Germany / IndiaPepper Motion GmbH, a retrofit firm based in Denkendorf, Bavaria, Germany, has confirmed reports of its involvement in plans to build an electric vehicle production facility in Punganur, supported by the Indian state government of Andhra Pradesh.

Representing an approximate investment of USD600m, the new facility will be developed along “vertical production” principles a la Tesla, meaning that battery and vehicle assembly will take place at the same location. Used diesel vehicles and new vehicles built from scratch will be fitted with Pepper Motion’s electric drive system, combining several components (see diagram below) including powertrain parts from ZF. Production of fuel cell electric vehicles based on Toyota’s fuel cell is also planned.
