Scania forms joint venture with Sennder for leasing electric trucks on pay-per-use basis

Sweden / Germany – In November, Scania AB, a subsidiary of the Traton Group based in Södertälje, Sweden, announced the formation of a joint venture with Sennder Technologies GmbH of Berlin, Germany which will lease electric trucks on a pay-per-use basis.

The joint venture, dubbed ‘Juna’, is based in Berlin and employs the digital freight-forwarding technology developed by Sennder.1 Through Sennder’s digital platform, customers may lease Scania electric trucks and receive repair, maintenance, insurance, and analytics services as part of a single package, charged to the customer based on usage. Through data analysis, Juna will also advise customers on optimal strategies and routes for the electric vehicles provided. The idea is to remove the high upfront costs and risks associated with purchasing an electric vehicle, replacing them instead with a usage fee which Scania claims is equivalent to running a diesel truck (on a per-kilometre basis).
