Range Energy achieves up to 36.9% fuel efficiency gains with electrified trailer technology

Two test trucks and Range Energy electrified trailer

USA – In November, startup firm Range Energy Inc of Mountain View, California announced results from preliminary third-party testing of its electrified trailer technology, showing fuel efficiency gains of up to 36.9%.

The test was conducted by Mesilla Valley Transportation Solutions (MVTS) of Las Cruces, New Mexico on a 25.5-mile route, comprising urban and highway roads. The tractor trailer combination weighed a combined 59,000 lbs and travelled at speeds of up to 60 mph. The results showed that using power recovered from braking by Range Energy’s electric axle and energy storage system could increase the fuel efficiency of a conventional truck by up to 3.25 miles per gallon.
