Germany – A new fuel cell electric heavy-duty truck, developed by vehicle modification firm Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH of Vilshofen an der Donau, Bavaria together with Voith and Pepper Motion, was unveiled at the end of last year and is purported to be the first serially-produced truck of its kind in Germany.
The truck, branded as ‘Paul Hydrogen Power’ (PH2P), is built on a 16-tonne Mercedes-Benz ‘Atego’ glider chassis. It is powered by the ‘Voith Electrical Drive System’ (VEDS), which provides 310 kW of continuous power and 410 kW of peak power. The fuel cell is an 80-kW system from Toyota which is supported by two 60-kW batteries. The 30-kilogram hydrogen storage system provides a range of approximately 450 kilometres and can be refilled in 10 to 15 minutes. Pepper Motion was also involved in vehicle development in an unspecified role, presumably offering its expertise in the integration of electric powertrains in commercial vehicles.
