Brazil - Production of trucks and buses of 6t GVW and above in Brazil fell by 37.5% in 2023 to 121,133 units (trucks and buses) compared with 193,765 in the previous year, according to data released by the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea). According to the Anfavea, the decrease was mainly due to higher costs associated with Proconve P8 (Euro VI) emission compliant trucks, which was made mandatory for all trucks sold on or after January 1, 2023, except for those trucks that have been derogated.

The change in technology brought a substantial increase in the price of a new truck, and in the first half of the year, the market basically consumed in-stock Euro V compliant vehicles. Márcio de Lima Leite, president of Anfavea, said: “As a result, the heavy-duty truck market showed a typical behaviour, with just 53% of trucks registered in 2023 being produced in that same year, yet this was still below the historical average of 74%.”
