Aurora and Continental finalise the design of the autonomous driving system

Continental and Aurora partnership

USA / Germany – After entering into a partnership last year, autonomous driving software developer, Aurora Innovations Inc of Mountain View, California, USA and German automotive parts company Continental AG of Hanover, have announced that the design (hardware architecture) of the jointly developed autonomous level 4 driving system (Aurora Driver) - scheduled to go into series production in 2027 - has been finalised. This key development milestone is a significant step toward deploying 12 test trucks by the end of the year.

Aurora states that this partnership will help ramp up (scale) the commercial launch of the Aurora Driver, and bring down costs once it is available to freight carriers. Both companies believe that autonomous driving has the potential to revolutionise the freight transportation industry, increasing efficiency and eliminating the issue of driver shortages. Aurora also has deals in place with Volvo and Paccar to use its self-driving technology in those companies’ trucks.
