ZF announces USD500m investment in Gray Court, South Carolina facility

Germany / USAZF Friedrichshafen AG of Friedrichshafen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany has announced a USD500m investment in its facility in Gray Court, South Carolina, USA, which it intends to turn into its first “flex manufacturing” site in North America, capable of serving combustion engine and electric vehicles in the passenger car and commercial vehicle segments. 

Opened in 2010, the Gray Court plant is primarily known for its production of automatic transmissions for the North American passenger car market. With the announced investment, ZF will hire 400 new workers and prepare the site for a wider range of manufacturing outputs, serving both internal combustion engines and electric powertrains. The first new product announced for the site is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle transmission intended for the ‘7 Series’ and ‘X5’ ranges by BMW
