Bus and coach sales recover strongly in April to December of 2023

India – Sales of buses and coaches (7.5t & above) increased by 37.7% in first three quarters (April to December) of fiscal year (FY) 2023-24 to register 33,088 units compared with 24,025 units in same three quarter period of 2022-23. Total bus and coach production increased by 30.2% from 28,371 units in same period of 2022-23 to 36,939 units in April to December of FY 2023-24. Bus and coach exports (>7.5t gvw) rose marginally by 3.8% to 7,691 units in the first three quarters of FY 2022-23, up from 7,406 units in same three quarter period of FY 2022-23.
Turning to the individual segments, domestic sales of medium-duty buses (ICV: 7.5 tonnes - 12 tonnes) increased by 26% to 18,389 units, up from 14,589 units in the same period of the year before, while production also improved by a similar margin, up by 26.7% from 16,905 units to 21,427 units. Export sales increased by 10.8% from 2,236 to 2,477 units.
