Ashok Leyland and Tata Motors enjoy major Euro VI coach tender spoils from Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh states

Chennai - Ashok Leyland Ltd of Chennai has announced that it has won a tender from Karnataka State Transport Undertakings (KSTC) for 1,225 fully built Bharat Stage (BS) VI diesel coaches, which are to be delivered by April this year – the contract value is estimated at USD 62.8m.

The fully built AL Viking bus of 16.2t GVW is powered using Ashok Leyland’s in-house iGen6 BS VI H Series, 6 cylinder diesel engine, which offers a peak output of 147kW (197hp) @ 2400 rev/min, and 700Nm of torque @ 1200-1900rev/min. The engine is matched with a 6-speed manual synchromesh with overdrive, using a cable shift system. The 12m length chassis, 5334mm (210inch) wheelbase is suspended with either a rubber ended leaf spring or an air suspension option at front and rear.
