USA - BAE Systems Inc of Endicott, NY, and Cummins Inc of Columbus, Indiana, have announced plans to continue their collaboration on the integration and certification of a B hybrid-compatible diesel engine and hybrid electric drivetrain for the transit bus market, model year 2027 vehicles and beyond. The two companies have targeted the ICE-electric hybrid drivetrain system for launch in 2027, in compliance with the new EPA greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions standards for heavy-duty highway vehicles, which are to be phased in starting as early as model year (MY) 2027 for certain vehicle categories.

In execution of this collaboration, BAE Systems states it is to supply its Series-E and ER Hybrid Solutions to interface with the engine and form a full hybrid electric drivetrain, as well as to provide engineering support and system integration expertise. The BAE Systems’ latest GEN 3 modular system, not only fits hybrid powertrains including diesel and fuel cell hybrids, it also fits full battery electric configurations.
