China - Sales of China-made commercial vehicles rose by over 10% to 1,033,000 units in the first quarter of 2024 from 938,000 units in the same period of last year, according to wholesale data compiled by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). The data also includes vehicles shipped to overseas markets.

Heavy truck sales increased by 13% to 273,000 units in the first three month of the year, with sales falling by 8% year-on-year to 106,000 units in March – reflecting sluggish domestic economic growth. According to local reports the domestic heavy truck market continued to be driven by strong demand for natural gas-powered vehicles at the expense of diesel models, helped by depressed natural gas prices and low freight rates.
