Hyundai unveils ‘ST1’ battery-powered LCV platform

Hyundai's new Service Type 1 (ST1) battery-powered LCV platform

South Korea - Hyundai Motor Company (HMC), headquartered in the South Korean capital city of Seoul, in March unveiled a new, purpose-designed platform for battery-powered light commercial vehicles, called the ST1 (Service Type 1), aimed at the general-purpose local delivery market.

The automaker, part of Hyundai Motor Group, said the battery-powered cab-chassis is based on a simple, flexible design allowing the vehicles to be offered in different sizes and layouts depending on their intended purpose. The cabin has a protruding engine hood, like the Staria minibus, for added safety during a frontal collision, while the rear chassis frame can be fitted with general cargo and refrigerated boxes. It has a low ground clearance which makes loading/unloading easier and improves access to indoor loading areas.
