Scania launches sales of autonomous trucks for Australian mining operations

Scania autonomous mining truck

Sweden / AustraliaScania AB, a subsidiary of the Traton Group based in Södertälje, Sweden, has launched sales for driverless autonomous trucks for use in the mining sector, starting in Australia.

Orders can now be placed for Scania’s 40-tonne tipper truck, installed with the company’s own self-driving software which it has tested over six years in mining operations in Australia. A 50-tonne model will shortly follow. These autonomous trucks can be specified with a conventional or electric driveline, though Scania claims that it is “easier to electrify operations” with autonomous trucks, which can operate all hours.
