Indian bus and coach sales rise 38% in fiscal year 2023-24

India – Bus and coach domestic sales (>7.5t gvw) in FY2023 (ending March 31, 2024) increased by 38.4% to 53,136 units, up from 38,388 units in the previous fiscal year to March 31, 2024. However, total bus and coach production decreased by 13.3% to 37,938 units in FY 2023, down from 43,785 units in the previous year. Total bus and coach exports (>7.5t gvw) also fell, down by 5% to 10,014 units from 10,543 units.

Turning to the individual segments, domestic sales of medium-duty buses and coaches (ICV: 7.5 tonnes - 12 tonnes) attained an increase of 25.1% from 23,008 units in the previous year to 28,778 units in FY 2023. While exports sales experienced a decrease of 6.6% from 3,350 units to 3,129 units, production rose by 20.5% to 31,540 units from 26,184 units. VECV-Eicher leads the field, while Tata Motors registered an increase of 42.4% to record 9,914 units. SML Isuzu sales grew by 19.2% to finish in third place.
