Cummins awarded USD75m in federal funds to transition to electric components production in Columbus

Cummins' Columbus Engine Plant in Indiana

USACummins Inc has announced that the U.S. Department of Energy has awarded it USD75m to convert part of its Columbus Engine Plant in the state of Indiana to electric drive system and components manufacturing, as part of the company’s plan to diversify its powertrain portfolio.

Approximately 360,000 square feet of the existing plant, which measures 1.42m square feet, will be given over to the ‘Accelera’ zero emission brand. Products made by Accelera will include battery packs, drive systems acquired from Meritor and Siemens, and other electric vehicle components.
