Conti Hefei plant

China / Germany – Tyre manufacturer, Continental AG of Hanover, Germany, has completed the fourth expansion of its tyre manufacturing plant in Hefei, China. This expansion will boost its annual capacity of light truck and passenger tyres to 18 million annually by 2027. This will help the company service growing demand in the Asia Pacific market. The expansion has created 400 new jobs and brings the total investment into the Hefei plant, to a little over EURO 1 billion.

New automated technology has been installed, including 3D printing technology used in the mould and tread patterns. In terms of sustainability, the plant has solar panels installed onto the roof, capable of producing 27 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year, which is roughly 18 percent of the total electricity used at the plant. This is part of Conti’s sustainability goals, to become 100% climate-neutral by 2050.
