UK – The retrofit division of Wrightbus Ltd (NewPower), a bus manufacturer based in Ballymena, UK, has announced that it will use the ZEN PLUS battery system from battery manufacturer Forsee Power SAS of Paris, France. The company plans to retrofit 1000 diesel-powered buses into electric over the next three years at its facility in Bicester, Oxfordshire. This will aid in the decarbonisation of the transport industry.

The retrofit process involves removing the engine and exhaust and replacing it with an electric motor and battery pack. The company will now compete with the likes of Equipmake and Kleanbus. Wrightbus has chosen the Zen Plus batteries due to their high energy density (180 Wh/kg) and long cycle life (5,000). The Zen Plus battery utilises a 77 kWh NMC lithium-ion cells.
