U.S. DOE selects eleven manufacturing sites for up to USD1.7bn in grants to transition to EVs

USA – Last month, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced grants totalling USD1.7bn would be made available to support as many as eleven closed or at-risk automotive manufacturing and assembly facilities in switching to the production of electric vehicles and components.

The ‘Domestic Manufacturing Auto Conversion Grants’ programme has selected eleven locations which are eligible to apply for funding. The DOE notes that selection does not amount to a commitment on its part to issue an award or provide funding. Those selected are now negotiating with the DOE for grants to help them transition to EV production, including assembly of whole vehicles and manufacture of key components.
