Decline in commercial vehicle sales in Malaysia continues in Q2

Malaysia - Malaysia’s commercial vehicle market over 2 tons gvw declined by 14% to 16,243 units in the second quarter of 2024 from 18,788 units a year earlier, according to registration data released by the Malaysian Automotive Association.

Commercial vehicle sales continued to fall, despite strengthening economic growth in the country, reflecting more than anything strong year-earlier volumes. GDP growth accelerated to 5.9% year-on-year in the second quarter, the highest growth rate since the fourth quarter of 2022 and up from 4.2% in the first quarter of this year, driven by strong domestic consumption and a pick-up in export growth.
