IAA Transportation 2024: Steyr Automotive presents Chinese truck made in Austria

Germany – At IAA Transportation 2024, held between 17-22 September in Hanover, Germany, Austrian contract manufacturer Steyr Automotive GmbH presented a battery electric truck built in partnership with a new Chinese company, Yangzhou-based Jiangsu Subao Power Technology Co Ltd, presenting under the name “SuperPanther”.

The vehicle on show was a tractor unit dubbed ‘eTopas 600’. With a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery system storing 621 kWh, the truck can cover 500 kilometres on a single charge. A dual-motor electric axle delivers continuous power of 394 kW and peak power of 692 kW. The e-axle technology, along with the thermal management and other electronics, were apparently developed in-house by SuperPanther.
