Sales of bus and coach models in India surge in first half of 2024/25

India – In the first half of the financial year 2024-25, domestic sales of buses and coaches with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 7.5 tonnes and above surged by 33.7%, totalling 29,904 units, up from 22,363 units in the same period of FY 2024-25. Vehicle production also saw a rise of 13.8% in the first half of FY 2024-25. However, export sales slipped by 9.4%, with 4,444 units shipped compared with 4,907 units in the first half of FY 2024.

Breaking down the segments, the medium-duty bus (7.5 tonnes to 12 tonnes) segment witnessed a 24.8% rise in domestic sales, reaching 16,496 units in the first half of FY 2024/25, up from 13,217 units in the first half of 2023/24. Export sales in this segment dropped by 16.2% to 1,519 units from 1,813 units. Production increased slightly by 2.2% from 14,283 units to 14,591 units. Tata Motors showed a substantial growth of 64.9%, while SML Isuzu posted an 8.6% increase.
