France / Japan – Components supplier Valeo SA of Paris, France has announced a partnership with Japanese electronics firm Rohm Co Ltd (or “Rohm Semiconductor”) to develop a new generation of automotive power electronics based on silicon carbide.
Valeo will work with Rohm to supply a “first series project” in early 2026. The Japanese partner will supply Valeo with a silicon carbide moulded module, dubbed ‘TRCDrive pack’, which has been developed for traction inverter drives. With Rohm’s technology, Valeo aims to develop a new generation of power modules for electric motor inverters which will go into electric vehicles in multiple segments, from e-bikes to e-trucks.
