Solaris delivers world’s first electric bus to carry “battery passport”

Solaris Urbino 18 electric delivered to Berlin

Poland / GermanySolaris Bus & Coach sp. z o.o. of Bolechowo, Poland claims it has delivered the world’s first electric bus to carry a “battery passport”, allowing the customer to trace the source(s) of the battery cell materials.

The vehicle in question is an articulated ‘Urbino 18’ battery electric bus, one of fifty ordered in 2023 by Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, the state-owned company which manages public transportation in the German capital. Affixed to the batteries – which are Solaris “high energy” packs with a combined capacity of 700 kWh – are stickers with QR codes which, if scanned, will bring up the battery’s digital passport.
