Malaysia – The market for commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw declined by over 17% to 16,517 units in the third quarter of 2024 from strong year-earlier sales of 19,966 units, based on data collated by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

Economic growth in the country slowed to 5.3% year-on-year in the third quarter from 5.9% in the second quarter, reflecting mainly a slowdown in private consumption growth to 4.8% from 6.0%. This was partially offset by an acceleration in government spending to 4.9% from 3.6% and a sharper rise in fixed investment to 15.3% from 11.5%.
