Plus to integrate disabled vehicle warning system in autonomous trucks

USA – At the end of last year, Plus of Santa Clara, California announced a strategic partnership with Emergency Safety Solutions (ESS) of Austin, Texas, which has agreed to integrate its emergency communications system with Plus’s autonomous truck software, ‘SuperDrive’.

ESS is the developer of H.E.L.P. (“Hazard Enhanced Location Protocol”), which activates automatically when a vehicle is disabled due to a fault or an accident. The vehicle lights flash at a rate of 5 Hz – faster and sharper than conventional hazard lighting – in order to make the disabled vehicle more conspicuous to other road users. Moreover, H.E.L.P. sends out alerts to other vehicles through their onboard navigation applications; ESS claims that other road users are alerted to a nearby disabled vehicle by up to fifteen seconds in advance.
