By Luke Willetts - 29th January 2025
Germany / USA – In January 2025, commercial vehicle brake and components manufacturer, Knorr-Bremse AG, based in Munich, Germany, announced that they had sold its steering systems subsidiary, R.H. Sheppard Co Inc (Sheppard) of Hanover, Pennsylvania, to Balmoral RHS Acquisition Corp., a U.S. investor managing assets of USD 1.3 billion. While the exact sale price was not disclosed, it's noteworthy that Knorr-Bremse (through its subsidiary Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC) had previously acquired Sheppard in 2020 for USD 149.5 million from ZF Friedrichshafen AG. This was after Wabco was forced to sell Sheppard as a condition of its merger with ZF.
Sheppard is an industry-leading manufacturer of steering systems for commercial vehicles in the North American market. The transaction involved the entire Sheppard business, including Sheppard’s branded products, manufacturing facilities, sales and service operations, and its interest in joint ventures related to supply and manufacturing.
